Welding

Introduction

The institute provides a systematic and practical approach to training in welding. The students will be exposed to industrial welding practises by using industrial standard welding equipments. Students will be trained up to level of 3G, 4G, 6G and 6GR level of welding skills. The industrial attachment, a prerequisite, at the end of the programme will enable the graduates to gain industrial practical experience. Besides acquiring the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM), our students are also encouraged to sit for Lloyds Register certification.

Entry Requirements

SPM/SPMV 1 credit preferably with a pass in BM.

Duration

Full time:

Level 1:- 6 months
Level 2:- 6 months

LEVEL 1
  • Complies with safe working practices
  • Interprets welding drawings and instructions
  • Layout work material / cut materials using gas cutting equipment
  • Prepares joints, fits and tacks work pieces before welding
  • Set-up Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) equipment and accessories
  • Inspect welded joints visually using inspection kits
LEVEL 2
  • Complies with safe working practices
  • Interprets welding drawings and instructions and procedures
  • Measure marks and cut materials using gas cutting equipment, disc cutter, power saw and air plasma cutting equipment
  • Prepare joints, fits and tacks work pieces before welding
  • Set-up Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) equipment and accessories
  • Carry out mechanical tests on welded specimens
  • Inspect welded joints visually using inspection kits
