Introduction

The nursing profession, comprising of nurses and nursing assistants constitutes the largest working group in the health care sector. Apart from being a highly responsible and noble profession, thsi profession demands a lot of time, dedication, patience, sacrifice, love and care for the sick patients. With the advancement in medical science, there has been a constant improvement in the nursing education standards. As the number of hospitals, nursing homes, private clinics and sanatoriums increased, professionally trained and qualified nurses are very much in demand, creating ample opportunities in this profession.

ICATS is offering Diploma in Nursing to meet the country needs for trained workforce in this field. The nursing course will provide comprehensive preparation and solid foundation in health, behavioral and nursing sciences using the integrated approach. The nursing process will be taught in the curriculum to provide a humanistic and holistic approach to nursing, at the same time prepare the nurses to meet the needs of patients, their families and community at large.

The 3-year programme will be structured based on these three components :

Component 1:
Nursing sciences, comprising principles and practice of nursing, obstetric nursing, community health nursing and mental health management.

Component 2 :     
Health sciences, comprising anatomy and physiology, fluids and electrolytes, microbiology and medical-surgical disorders.

Component 3 :
Behavioral sciences, comprising sociology, psychology, human public relations and communications.

Entry Requirements

SPM with 3 credits with a pass in BM and a compulsory pass BI, 1 Science Subject and 1 Maths Subject. Candidates must be 25 years old and below, Height : 5 feet and above.

Full time : 3 years [6 semesters] - Inclusive of practical training

Career Opportunities

Graduates of ICATS Diploma in Nursing should be able to participate in employment opportunities in the fields of clinical nursing, healthcare, education and management, locally and abroad. They can hold position as registered nurse, nursing supervisor, manager in hospitals, educator, industrial nurse or as product specialist and other related profession. Alternatively, they can pursue their education to degree level in local or oversea institution.
